50 year awards Sept 2024

Aloha members,

 

At our September 22nd, 2024 General membership meeting we had the honor of presenting 50-year membership certificates to Richard Drake and Michael Pierceall.

Richard was a long-time property master/art director with a lifetime of commercial, film, television and live event experiences. He can be found on the web under Richard Drake photography.

Mike was a longtime stage carpenter/prop maker. He like many of us also worked in many various crafts throughout our industry.  Proving that the more skills and knowledge you have the greater you’re work experience will be.

I have worked with both of them numerous times over the years and it was always a pleasure

Hurricane Season August 2024

Aloha kakou, members of Local 665,

We’re smack dab in the middle of hurricane season, and it seems like Mother Nature has some excitement in store for us. There are times that life gets busy, and we may let our preparedness lapse, which is totally understandable. Please take a moment to take stock of your supplies. If you don’t have an emergency evac plan, take a moment to consider what you might need to do in an emergency. Here are some resources that may prove useful:

  • HIEMA Preparedness Info – Hawai’i Emergency Management Agency (HIEMA) website where you can find Emergency Proclamations, Hazard Mitigation, Community Programs, and helpful info on emergency supplies
  • Emergency Preparedness Quick Tips & Checklist – provided by Hawaiian Electric, available in eight (8) different languages, also includes Power Outage maps (statewide and by county)
  • NOAA Live Hurricane Tracker – Satellite imagery and forecast for the projected path of storms. Tropical Storm Gilma’s projected path takes a northerly path across the state of Hawai’i. It is projected to be downgraded to a Tropical Depression, but that’s not a guarantee. This animated version has served me well over the years
  • What’s In Your Go Kit? – Handy checklist and Kid-friendly version provided by HIEMA. Food, clothes, water (1 gallon/day/person), medications, pet supplies, toilet paper, bedding, flashlight, emergency radio, phone chargers, and more – better to be aware than otherwise

Please take stock of any potential hazards in your area and take appropriate precautions. We can’t control the weather, but we can control how we weather the storm. Take care and stay safe out there, everyone.
